GTA 6 Map Size: How Leonida Compares to Every Previous GTA

We mapped every GTA world to scale. Leonida is bigger than you think — and it's not even close.

Based on data extracted from the GTA VI trailers and cross-referenced against known landmark dimensions, we have built a scale comparison of every major Grand Theft Auto map.

One caveat up front, because it matters: Rockstar has never published a size figure for GTA VI. Every number circulating, including ours, is an estimate derived from trailer analysis. Treat it as informed approximation.

The numbers

  • **GTA III, Liberty City** — roughly 8 km²
  • **GTA Vice City (2002)** — roughly 6 km²
  • **GTA San Andreas** — roughly 36 km²
  • **GTA IV, Liberty City** — roughly 10 km²
  • **GTA V, San Andreas** — roughly 81 km²
  • **GTA VI, Leonida** — estimated 110 to 130 km²

  • Why raw area is a poor measure

Square kilometres are the figure everyone quotes and the least useful thing to know.

GTA V's 81 km² includes a very large amount of mountain, desert and ocean — space that exists to be driven through rather than used. San Andreas in 2004 was 36 km² and felt enormous because it contained three distinct cities with genuinely different characters.

Density, not area, determines how big a world feels.

What actually looks different about Leonida

Three things stand out in the trailer footage.

Navigable water. The Keys-style island chain to the south adds a large amount of traversable water rather than decorative ocean. Water you can meaningfully move through and do things on is functionally map area; water that exists as a boundary is not.

Interior space. The footage implies considerably more enterable buildings than GTA V shipped with. This has historically been the single biggest constraint on how alive a GTA city feels, and it costs memory rather than map area — which is exactly the kind of budget current-generation hardware unlocked.

Vertical density. Downtown Vice City appears to stack more usable space into a smaller footprint than Los Santos did.

    The honest conclusion

Leonida is very likely the largest map in series history. Whether it is the biggest by a modest margin or a dramatic one, nobody outside Rockstar currently knows.

And the number will matter less than you expect. If the density claims hold, Leonida will feel substantially larger than its square kilometres suggest — which is the opposite of the problem GTA V had with its empty northern half.

We will update this page with a verified figure if Rockstar publishes one.
