The Leonida Map — Every Region Explained
Vice City, the Keys, the Everglades and everything between. A region-by-region guide to the GTA 6 map based on confirmed trailer footage.
GTA VI is set in Leonida, a fictional state modelled on Florida. Here is a region-by-region breakdown of what the trailers have actually shown.
Every description below comes from visible footage. Where something is community inference rather than observation, it is marked.
Vice City
The state's principal metropolis and the series' first return to it since 2002.
What is visible: a dense downtown of high-rise development sitting alongside preserved Art Deco districts, extensive beachfront, and a working port. The architectural mix spans three distinct eras, which is what gives the city the texture of a real place rather than a single consistent set.
Expect this to carry the highest density of missions, businesses and traffic.
The beach and strip districts
The most immediately recognisable Vice City imagery: neon frontages, hotel rows, and a beachfront strip. This is the direct descendant of the original game's Ocean Beach, and it is where most of the trailers' night footage is set.
Leonida Keys
An island chain running south from the mainland, connected by causeways — a clear analogue of the Florida Keys.
This is the most structurally novel part of the map. It adds a large amount of genuinely navigable water rather than decorative ocean, which changes how traversal works: boats become a real mode of transport rather than a novelty.
Trailer footage places significant story content here.
The Everglades
A wetland interior of cypress swamp and sawgrass, with airboat-suitable waterways.
This is the most distinctive environment Rockstar has built for a GTA game. It is not a desert or a mountain range repurposed; swamp traversal, limited sightlines and water-based movement make it mechanically different from anything in GTA V.
Suburbs and inland towns
Visible across the footage: strip malls, low-rise residential sprawl, trailer communities and highway interchanges. Less glamorous than the city, and historically where Rockstar does some of its sharpest satire.
Coastline and outer areas
Trailer footage shows rocky coastal stretches and at least one lighthouse. Community analysis has identified several additional named areas, though these are inference from map fragments rather than confirmed labels.
How big is it?
Rockstar has not published a size figure. Estimates derived from trailer analysis put Leonida somewhere in the range of 110 to 130 square kilometres, which would make it the largest map in series history. Treat all such numbers as approximations.
The more useful measure is density. Based on the footage, Leonida appears to pack substantially more enterable interiors and usable space per square kilometre than GTA V did — and that, far more than raw area, determines how large a world feels to play.
Our map page
We maintain an interactive map with regions and points of interest, labelled Confirmed, Rumoured or Speculation. It will be filled out properly once the game is in players' hands and real coordinates exist.
