GTA Online Before GTA 6 — What Is Actually Worth Doing
Seven weeks left. A straight assessment of what to buy, what to unlock, and what to ignore in GTA Online before the sequel arrives.
In the final stretch before GTA VI, a lot of GTA Online content is telling people to grind urgently. Here is a more honest assessment of what is worth your time.
Start with the uncomfortable fact
Rockstar has not confirmed that GTA Online money, properties or progression transfer to GTA VI.
Every urgent "grind now before it's too late" video is built on a rumour. It might turn out to be true. It is not currently information.
So the honest filter for everything below is: *would I still want this if nothing transfers?*
Worth doing
Finish content you have been putting off. The Cayo Perico and Doomsday heist storylines, the Dr. Dre contract, the casino heist variants — these are genuinely good content you paid for. Playing them now costs nothing and you lose the opportunity if you move on in November.
Buy things you will actually use before launch. A vehicle you want to drive, an apartment you want to own. Enjoyment now is real value; a stockpile for a hypothetical transfer is not.
Hit any rank milestones you are close to. If some form of status recognition does carry over, rank is the most plausible candidate — it is the one number that represents time rather than money.
Not worth doing
Grinding to a huge cash balance. This is the main thing people are doing and the hardest to justify. If nothing transfers, you end up with a large number next to a character you have stopped playing. Even if something does transfer, a cash import would almost certainly be capped or converted at a heavy discount, because importing thirteen years of accumulated wealth would wreck a new economy on day one.
Buying every property. Businesses pay back over months. A warehouse bought today may not recoup its cost before you stop playing.
Chasing completion for its own sake. If you are not enjoying it, the deadline is artificial.
If you want a concrete plan
For someone who enjoys GTA Online and wants a sensible final stretch:
1. Run Cayo Perico on 2x weeks only — the bonus rotation matters more than the method
2. Keep a nightclub and bunker accruing passively while you play other things
3. Spend what you earn on things you will use before November
4. Finish one heist storyline you have never completed
That is it. No panic grinding.
After GTA VI launches
GTA Online is not going away immediately. Rockstar has not announced an end to support, and shutting down a product with a large active player base generating revenue would be unusual.
The likelier pattern, based on how GTA IV's multiplayer was handled, is that servers stay up and event rotations continue while new development moves elsewhere. You will be able to come back.
